OH Turner headed to Webber International in Florida

Rend Lake College outside hitter Alexis Turner (Johnston City) is continuing her collegiate volleyball career at Webber International University, a private university in Babson Park, Fla.

Turner joined teammates and RLC Head Coach Reggie Bateman at a signing event held recently on the Ina campus.

Rend Lake College sophomore Alexis Turner (Johnston City) signed her national letter of intent to play volleyball at Webber International University in Florida. Turner played 47 matches for RLC in 2021. The program did not play a match in 2020, due to COVID-19. Turner is pictured with RLC Head Coach Reggie Bateman. Click on the image for a larger photo.

"She is a really positive person, which is always good to have," Bateman said. "Whenever you need a player to go ... take care of this. Give me this line shot. Give me this hard cross. Give me this whatever. Do what you do. And she knows exactly what she does. So when she goes to Florida, they're getting a heck of a player. She's going to take a minute to warm up, but once she opens up, it's a different kid. She's going to give it 110 percent."

Turner visited the WIU campus and Warriors athletic facilities last month, and officially inked her national letter of intent to play there. She toured campus, met her advisors and some professors, and was able to sit down with some of the coaching staff and players. She'll be majoring in psychology. Her goal is to one day be a forensic psychologist.

"They were super-friendly, super nice," Turner said. "They gave me a bunch of places to go after the visit. They were just nice. The campus is gorgeous. It's right on a lake. It's got a beach."

Turner talked about her goals playing for WIU.

"Next year I want to be able to have another successful season and just have fun, get close with the girls like I was here," she said. "I like the school because of the location. Obviously. I'm in Florida. I love the school. I love the coaches. The girls that I met were super-nice, super-friendly. The staff was friendly and it was like home."

Turner played all 31 matches for the Lady Warriors this season. She was second on the team in kills (301) and attacks (836), and third in total points (324).

"This past season, the game was on [Turner and sophomore Bianca Huddson's] shoulders," Bateman said. "So whenever I needed a kill, or a spot to go open, or to run a specialized play — a three or something like that — I would just talk to Alexis and say, 'Hey, go out there and do your thing.'"

"Rend Lake gave me the exposure," Turner said. "I had a great coach, great teammates. They always pushed me and it was a good school to start out at because I could have fun while playing the game. We had lots of fun while practicing and on the court, and taking dubs."

She offered some advice to future RLC Lady Warriors.

"Don't stress out too much. You're gonna have fun. You're going to meet lots of cool people from around the country. And you have a good coach to take care of you."
