Community High School District 99 Parent Teacher Advisory Committee met May 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Parent Teacher Advisory Committee, Community High School District 99, met at 6:05 p.m. The meeting was held virtually on Google Meet.

The following were present: Board Members Jennie Hagstrom and Joanna Vazquez Drexler; Scott Wuggazer, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services; Gina Ziccardi, Associate Superintendent for Student Learning; Lisa Bollow, Director of Special Services; Kelly Zuerner and Karen Taylor, Associate Principals; Michelle Bodi and Nader Najjar, PATH Coordinators; and Juli Gniadek, Secretary.

A copy of the meeting login is attached. 18 individuals signed up for the meeting.

1. OPENING REMARKS

Scott Wuggazer welcomed those in attendance and thanked them for their attendance. He invited attendees to ask questions at any time and shared that next year's meeting would be back to in person.

Mr. Wuggazer introduced Board members Joanna Vazquez Drexler and Jennie Hagstrom. The

2. CONSOLIDATED DISTRICT PLAN Gina Ziccardi stated the Consolidated District Plan is submitted annually and covers the Title Grants, IDEA Grant and the three ESSER Grants. She shared a Local Needs Assessment was done in April and presented information and data on the following areas: 9th Grade on Track, Graduation Rates, SAT Scores and Semester Failure Rates. Ms. Ziccardi reviewed some of the interventions that were implemented, including: having Student Success Coordinators and Interventionists in both buildings, free Summer School (summer 2021), Paper (online tutoring), the PATH Program, and providing additional EL support.

3. PATH PROGRAM

Dr. Taylor explained the PATH program is in lieu of an out-of-school suspension, is for more significant violations, and is intended to repair the harm and teach students other ways to comport themselves. She shared, to be eligible to participate in the PATH program, a student must be willing to accept accountability for their actions and be willing to repair the harm.

Kelly Zuerner stated the interventions are based on data and the goal of the program is to prevent removal of a student from the educational environment.

Michelle Bodi and Nader Najjar shared the PATH program is very individualized, looks at the whole student and has extended to students who are serving in school suspensions.

4. SPECIAL EDUCATION - CRISIS OVERSIGHT TEAM Lisa Bollow stated all districts are required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to have a Crisis Oversight Team and the Team must have a plan to the State by June 30, 2022, describing how they will reduce the use of physical restraint and isolated time out. She shared the Team has three goals: 1) Reduce the number of incidents of restraint; 2) Provide training for staff; and 3) Resource development. Ms. Bollow updated the attendees on the progress of each of the goals.

5. CLOSING REMARKS

Mr. Wuggazer thanked everyone for attending and shared he would be sending out an exit survey

and the slide presentation. He stated the District appreciates the feedback provided.
