State Sen. Terri Bryant  (R-Murphysboro) recently won her bid for re-election to represent the state's new 58th District and took a moment to thank her constituents for voting for her.

"I want to take a moment to thank the thousands of friends and supporters that voted for me to be your next State Senator in last Tuesday's Primary Election! Come January 2023, I will be serving as the new 58th District's State Senator,"  Bryant wrote in a July 6 Facebook post. "Serving you in Springfield is an honor and privilege that I take very seriously. Thank you again to everyone for your continued support and efforts on my behalf. God Bless You!"

Bryant will be running unopposed in November's general election.

WMIX 94 reported in September 2021 Bryant announced her re-election campaign saying, "The people of the 58th district deserve a Senator with a strong conservative record. My record as State Senator reflects my pro-growth, pro-jobs, limited government philosophy. I’ve stood strong against what I think are executive overreaches and I’ve taken JB Pritzker to task for his failed handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Governor closed businesses, kicked people out of their jobs, and then horribly botched the distribution of unemployment benefits, causing hardship throughout the State of Illinois. The Governor’s lack of engagement with the legislature in managing the COVID-19 pandemic amount to the actions of an out-of-control chief executive and people are sick of it."

In late June, Bryant reacted to the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturning the Roe v. Wade ruling on abortion, saying that the decision "actually means nothing changes in Illinois," as reported by Southwest Illinois News.

"Basically, in Illinois, you can still get an abortion at any time, for any reason, up to and including partial birth abortion," the senator said, as reported by Southwest Illinois News. "By the way, it's 100% taxpayer-funded. Women who are pregnant automatically qualify for Medicaid, and Illinois cannot reimburse the federal dollars for those abortions that are performed. You also are not required to show any income verification, so you can make as much as you want and still qualify for free abortions."

In May, Bryant attended a Lincoln Day Dinner in White County, according to SE Illinois News.

“Fantastic crowd at the Lincoln Day Dinner in Carmi last evening,” Bryant wrote on Facebook. “Big crowd joining great candidates, all discussing the upcoming Illinois Primary Election.”
