Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District No. 196 Board of Education met June 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

A special meeting of the Board of Education of Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District No. 196 was held in the Sesser-Valier High School Conference Room at 6:00 PM. The meeting was called to order by President Megan Rounds at 6:00 PM. President Rounds appointed District Superintendent Jason Henry as recording secretary for the meeting.

ROLL CALL

District Superintendent Jason Henry called the roll with the following result:

Members Present: Acosta, Barry, Menser, Rounds, Sample, Spence, Stacey

Members Absent: None

Staff Present: J. Henry, K. Jones, N. Page, J. Shadowens, T. Masters, C. Basso, N. Wingo

Visitors Present:

Luke Thompson; Donny Short; Marcus Clarry; Sean Payne, Brent Loucks; Becky Loucks; Jason Hoffard; Jackie Hoffard; Carson Hoffard; Gabe Gunter; Colton Payne; Wyatt Loucks; Roger Hicks; Mike Barry; Luke Barry; Clark Lance

PUBLIC COMMENT & CORRESPONDENCE

No correspondence. Sean Payne and Donny Short addressed the board regarding the employment of a high school boys' basketball coach and commented about specific candidates.

CLOSED SESSION

At 6:05 PM, a motion was made by Stacey and seconded by Menser to enter into closed session for the purpose of discussing the following exceptions to the Open Meetings Act:

a. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), as amended by P.A. 93-57)

b. Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning the salary schedule for one or more classes of employees (5 ILCS 120/20 (2)

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Barry, Menser, Rounds, Sample, Spence, Stacey, Acosta

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

RECONVENE FROM CLOSED SESSION: At 7:43 PM, a motion was made by Stacey and seconded by Barry to reconvene from closed session.

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Menser, Rounds, Sample, Spence, Stacey, Acosta, Barry

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS

EMPLOYMENT OF ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM TEACHER (K-9; WHITTINGTON, ALISHA): A motion was made by Stacey and seconded by Barry to employ Alisha Whittington as an Elementary Classroom Teacher (K-9), subject to her successful completion of a required, fingerprint-based criminal background check and presentation of necessary licensure for the position.

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Rounds, Sample, Spence, Stacey, Acosta, Barry, Menser

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT OF ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM TEACHER (GRADES 1-6; HERNANDEZ, GAVIN): A motion was made by Stacey and seconded by Acosta to employ Gavin Hernandez as an Elementary Classroom Teacher (Grade 1-6), subject to his successful completion of a required, fingerprint-based criminal background check and presentation of necessary licensure for the position.

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Sample, Spence, Stacey, Acosta, Barry, Menser, Rounds

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT OF JHS/HS BOYS PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER (SPAIN, LOGAN): A motion was made by Barry and seconded by Spence to employ Logan Spain as a JHS/HS Boys Physical Education Teacher, subject to his successful completion of a required, fingerprint-based criminal background check and presentation of necessary licensure for the position.

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Spence, Stacey, Acosta, Barry, Menser, Rounds, Sample

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT OF OUTDOORSMEN CLUB CO-SPONSORS (MASTERS, TRACY; PAYNE, RACHEL): A motion was made by Stacey and seconded by Acosta to employ Tracy Masters and Rachel Payne as Outdoorsmen Club Co-Sponsors, as presented.

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Stacey, Acosta, Barry, Menser, Rounds, Sample, Spence

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT OF TEEN REACH GRANT COORDINATOR & ASSISTANT COORDINATOR (TINSLEY, REGINA; HACKER, LESLIE): A motion was made by Acosta and seconded by Menser to employ Regina Tinsley as Teen REACH Grant Coordinator, subject to Fiscal Year 2023 grant funding, and Leslie Hacker as Teen REACH Grant Assistant Coordinator, subject to Fiscal Year 2023 grant funding.

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Barry, Menser, Rounds, Sample, Spence, Stacey, Acosta

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

APPROVAL OF DISTRICT RETURN TO TRADITIONAL NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM: A motion was made by Stacey and seconded by Spence to approve the District's return to a traditional, student-pay school breakfast/lunch program for Fiscal Year 2023 and beyond.

Roll call voting was as follows:

Yeas: Menser, Rounds, Sample, Spence, Stacey, Acosta, Barry

Nays: None

There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Acosta and seconded by Stacey to adjourn.

Voting was as follows: All voted yea. There being seven (7) yeas and zero (0) nays, the president declared that the motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 7:50 PM.
