Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met June 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:01 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Belinda Kirgan, Erin Berry and Brian Gamber

Visitor Communication: None

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to go into closed session at 6:11 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to return to open session at 8:30 p.m.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes;

Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes , Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.

A motion as made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the 2nd reading of WGS handbook changes

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the 1st reading of board policy updates.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to accept the retirement of Rick Skibinski as WGS Head Custodian effective June 9, 2022.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to accept the resignation of Rachel Long as WGS Custodian.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to hire Brian Gamber as 2022- 2023 WHS Dean of Students for a 1 year contract at $65,000.

Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.

No action was taken on the item to hire a WHS Baseball coach

No action was taken on the FY22 Amended Budget.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to authorize the preparation of the FY23 budget.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the FY23 Insurance Renewal

Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the base bleacher bid by Irwin Seating in the amount o f$165,564.59

Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve Alternate bid proposal #3 by Irwin Seating to add a 9th row of bleachers to one side.

Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve ComPsych benefits through Egyptian Trust for all district employees.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes;

Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the FBLA overnight trip to the national convention in Chicago July 29th.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to destroy verbatim closed session minutes older that 18 months.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the 2022-2023 Board Meeting dates.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to adjourn at 9:35 p.m. Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes Motion carried.
