City of Benton City Council met Aug. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Minutes Of The Special Called Benton City Council Meeting Held At 9:00 A.M. In The Benton Municipal Building Located At 1403 South Main Street Benton, Illinois.

Mayor Kondritz Called The Meeting To Order. Commissioner Garavalia, Commissioner Cockrum, Commissioner Messersmith, And Mayor Kondritz Were Present For Roll Call.

Commissioner Cockrum Stated That He Had Called The Meeting For Discussion And/Or Approval Of Emergency Water Main Repair Under Interstate 57. Commissioner Cockrum Stated That This Line Is 10 Feet Dept And That It Will Be Completed Within A Couple Of Weeks. He Stated That The Pip Has Been Ordered, The Emergency Permit From Epa Has Been Obtained, And The Idot Permit Is Being Issued. Commissioner Cockrum Stated That The Water Main Will Be Upgraded From A 6” To An 8” Line To Help Get Water To That Side Of Town. Commissioner Cockrum Also Stated That The Money For This Project Will Come From The Revenue Fund. Commissioner Cockrum Made A Motion To Approve The Emergency Water Main Repair Under Interstate 57 With Work To Be Completed By Wiggs Excavating In The Amount Of $83,442.32. Commissioner Messersmith Stated That He Would Second This Motion. Attorney Malkovich Stated That Since This Project Would Not Be Bid Out, As It Is Being Done On An Emergency Basis, That By Ordinance 80%, Or A 4/5th, Vote Will Allow For Passage Of This Motion Without A Bid. Vote Was Taken. Yeas: 4. Commissioner Garavalia, Commissioner Cockrum, Commissioner Messersmith, And Mayor Kondritz. Nays: 0. Motion Passed.

Darrell And Myra Ellis Were Present In The Audience, But Stated That They Were Just Trying To Get Involved In The Community By Attending Various Meetings. Mrs. Ellis Asked If There Would Be Residential Or Business Expansion On The West Side Of Town After The Interchange Is Constructed. The Council Stated That The Area Is Not Zoned For Residential.

Commissioner Cockrum Made A Motion To Adjourn. Second By Commissioner Messersmith. Vote Was Taken. Yeas: 4. Commissioner Garavalia, Commissioner Cockrum, Commissioner Messersmith, And Mayor Kondritz. Nays: 0.
