Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Aug. 18.

The regular meeting of the Woodlawn USD #209 board was held on August 18, 2022 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Brian Gamber, Sandra Kabat, Erika Kehrer, Pete Peterson, Sheila Peterson

Visitor Communication: Erika Kehrer spoke about enforcement of the WGS dress code and felt it was being enforced to strictly and was causing problems and embarrassment among the students. Pete Peterson thanked the board for their service and spoke to support Erika and her opinions.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to open the amended budget hearing.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to close the amended budget hearing.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the FY22 amended budget.

Members voted: Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps; Leslie Knox; yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Scott Owens, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve consent agenda items

Members voted: Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps; Leslie Knox; yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Scott Owens, pass

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to go into closed session at 6:32pm

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made to return to open session by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Michele Chesnek at 6:53pm.

All member voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion to approve Brad Odum as WHS fall baseball assistant coach with one year experience was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle.

Members voted: Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps; Leslie Knox; yes, Kyle Ritchey; yes; Scott Owens, yes.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Chad Phelps to hire Leah Bennett as WGS Honors Club sponsor.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps; Leslie Knox; yes, Kyle Ritchey; yes.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the WHS Temporary Building Occupancy Report.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritchle and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve MOU #6 with the WEA agreeing to waive evaluations for tenured teachers for the 22-23 school year and MOU #7 with the WEA to create a WGS substitute coordinator.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps; Leslie Knox; yes, Kyle Ritchey; yes.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to set the FY23 budget hearing date for September 22 at 6pm at Woodlawn HS.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the FY23 invoice of payments with Franklin-Jefferson Special Education.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the 2022-2023 district copy paper purchase of $9154.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps; Leslie Knox; yes, Kyle Ritchey; yes.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Michele Chesnek to appoint Sandra Kabat as an alternate executive board member to the Franklin-Jefferson Special Education executive board.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to authorize the creation of a Health-Life Safety amendment to repair a section of WGS roofing. All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to authorize the Superintendent to apply for a School Maintenance Project Grant.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to adjourn at 7:20pm All members voted yes by a roll call vote.
