Illinois Community College District No. 521 Board of Trustees met Sept. 13.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

Chairman Rubenacker called the Special Board of Trustees meeting to order at 5:39 pm.

ROLL CALL 

Mr. Brian Dorris, Secretary, called the roll.

Updates of Alliance between Rend Lake College and Southeastern Illinois College 

President Wilkerson and President Rice welcomed the group to the joint meeting between SIC & RLC. Administrators took time to update the Board of Trustees on progression of the colleges’ alliance agreement.

Dr. Karen Weiss and Mrs. Lori Ragland updated the group on the updates related to instruction. They highlighted both institutions getting on the same LMS has been beneficial to the students and the alliance. They discussed shared instructional programs (history, music, etc.) for students.

Mr. Chad Copple and Dr. Chris Barr discussed the IT side of the alliance. They discussed sharing a programmer and the work being done there. RLC is currently sharing their programmer with SIC one day per week. Plans to maybe partner on IR needs may be in the future.

Mrs. Lisa Hite and Mr. John Gulley discussed shared maintenance services. RLC is going to overview the cafeteria services at SIC; and SIC is sending Auxiliary Services personnel to RLC to see the bookstore and coffee shop. In the past, we shared a grant writer.

Mr. Henry “Buster” Leeck and Mrs. Kyla Burford discussed how both institutions are sharing a mental health counselor, and how each institution uses her services differently.

PRESIDENTS’ COMMENTS 

President Jonah Rice discussed next steps to add alignment items to individual strategic plans. He also touched on the possibility of assessment workshops with faculty and staff at both institutions. President Terry Wilkerson thanked the boards for their trust and commitment to this idea and allowing the opportunity to grow.

OTHER COMMENTS 

Mr. Jim Ellis commented on this alignment bringing our institutions above others in the state, and said he can attest to the interest it has gained at state meetings. Mr. Ellis thanked both presidents.

Mr. Randy Rubenacker also thanked the administrators and college staff.

ADJOURNMENT There being no other business, Mr. Kabat made a motion at 6:24 PM to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Crocker all trustees present voiced aye in favor of adjourning.
