The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (7-7) closed the Dunn Hospitality Group Classic with a 68-60 victory over Oakland City University (7-8) on Friday, December 30.
Facing a 26-31 deficit at halftime, MVNU had work to do in the second half if it wanted to head into the new year with a win. This is exactly what the Cougars did as the offense was able to find a little more of a rhythm in the last 20 minutes of play. MVNU outscored OCU 42-29 in the second half. The Cougars came out the more aggressive team after the break as they made their way to the free throw line 21 times in the half. MVNU hit 17 of its attempts. Defense was key for the Cougars path to victory as they forced 18 turnovers. The team scored 18 points off OCU miscues in the game.
