RUEGSEGGER REACHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS IN WIN AT SPRING ARBOR

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (9-7, 2-4 CL) defeated Spring Arbor University (8-9, 2-5 CL) on the road by a score of 91-70 on Saturday, January 7.

Along with picking up its fourth straight win and second straight conference win, the Cougars saw one of their own hit a big career milestone. Heading into the game, Kade Ruegsegger needed 13 points to hit 1,000 points for his career. Ruegsegger accomplished the impressive feat with a three with 11:25 remaining in the second half that pushed MVNU's advantage over SAU to 63-47. MVNU controlled the game from start to finish and led by as many as 24 points in the second half at one point.

MVNU shot 50% from the field and made 10 threes at a 40% clip (10-25). The Cougars also shot 89% from the free throw line (17-19) in the 91-70 victory.

Inside the Box Score

Kyle Kegley led all scorers with 18 points on 6-13 shooting from the floor. Kegley grabbed 10 rebounds and had three assists.

Hallvard Staff had 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench on 5-5 shooting from the field. Staff pulled down six boards.

Ruegsegger had 13 points which is exactly what the junior from Dover, Ohio needed to join the 1,000 point club.

Trent Koning and Eric McLaughlin each had 10 points for MVNU.

"Really proud of our group. They continue to lock into our process. Playing up in Michigan is always hard and our guys knew they had to play with a high level of poise and toughness. We're excited to continue to grow on Monday."
