COUGARS LOSE TIGHT CONTEST AT TAYLOR
The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (10-9, 3-6 CL) fell in a hard-fought Crossroads League battle to Taylor University (12-8, 6-4 CL) by a score of 57-63 on Wednesday, January 18.
Hot shooting for Taylor in the first half gave it a 32-26 lead heading into the break. Taylor shot 60% from the field and hit seven threes at a 53% clip to stay in front of MVNU in the half. Despite falling behind by nine after a Taylor three to start the second half, MVNU dug in and began to get itself back into the game. The Cougars responded to the early three from Taylor with a 16-7 run to tie the game at 42-42 with 15:16 remaining.
A Trent Koning three with 14:13 on the clock gave MVNU a 45-44 lead. However, this ended up being MVNU's last lead of the game as Taylor's shooters began to heat back up. Despite playing the Trojans even in the second half, the hot shooting from the hosts in the first half prevented MVNU from the road win. For the game, Taylor shot 47% from the floor and 40% (10-25) from three.
