COUGARS DEFEATED ON THE ROAD AT NO.16 MARIAN

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (10-10, 3-7 CL) fell at No.16 Marian University (17-4, 7-4 CL) by a score of 74-95.

MVNU entered the game shorthanded as senior forward Kyle Kegley was sidelined with an injury. MVNU hung tough in the first half, but the battle-tested Knights went on a 13-0 run at the end to enter halftime with a 50-33 lead. Despite a more even second half in which Marian only outscored MVNU by four (45-41), the 13-0 run to end the first half ended up being too much for the Cougars to overcome in the game.

Despite the loss, MVNU shot extremely well from the field at 50% for the game. The Cougars shot 33% (6-18) from three. However, Marian shot lights out as well as it finished the game shooting 53.7% from the field and 45.5% (15-33) from three.

Inside the Box Score

Kade Ruegsegger had a team-high 25 points and nine rebounds for MVNU. Ruegsegger shot 8-12 from the field and 3-5 from deep.

TC Molk had 12 points and three assists.

Gichairo Berika had 11 points and four rebounds.

Carter Pline and Trent Koning each had nine points. Koning had four assists and three rebounds.

Coach Ronai's Thoughts

"Proud of our men and their fight today. Marian closed the half on a quick 13-0 run and that is difficult to overcome on the road against a team of that caliber. We had a lot of young players getting valuable experience that will accelerate their growth down the road. Time to get better Monday."
