Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Dec. 15.

A regular board meeting was held on December 15, 2022 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sara Hays, Sarah Mellott, Christine Elwood, Steve Danner, Brian Gamber, Sandra Kabat, Melissa Hefner, Barbara Garner, Kevin Garner, John Danner, Pam Danner, Garry Langa, Jamie Gordon, Ben Gordon, Josh Trout, Mark Elliston, Gerald Mays, Dan Wilson, Gordon Ellis, Joe Coultas, Dale Randall, Brenda Randall, Dessie Staley, Carl Staley, Robert Staley

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to open the truth in taxation hearing.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Many visitors spoke and voiced concern over the increase in the tax levy. There were some questions and discussions with the board about the tax levy.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Jacob Frick to close the truth in taxation hearing.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the 2022 WHS levy at 4.99%.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve the 2022 WGS levy at 4.99%

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the Unit levy at 4.99%

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Visitor Communication: Melissa Hefner presented the board with a request for new math curriculum.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Jacob Frick to go into closed session at 7:44 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to return to open session at 8:40 p.m.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Leslie Knox to accept the resignation of Brya Scott as softball coach.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to hire Kalyn Bond as WHS softball coach with 0 years’ experience.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Chad Phelps to hire Kate Page as WHS track coach.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item IX 4- District Nurse was tabled

Item IX 5- 4th and 5th grade math curriculum died due to lack of motion

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the Johannes Pay Application #4 for $27920.70.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the Johannes Pay Application #5 for $64010.70.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item IX 7- Glandt Roofing Pay Application was tabled.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the Irwin Seating Pay Application #1 for $155637.65.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Rend Lake Area Regional delivery system for vocational education.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve board policy updates first reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve WHS athletic officials pay to the following: Boys Varsity Basketball $85.00, Boys JV Basketball $65, Girls both JV & Varsity $120.00

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.
