Michelle Abercrombie is a candidate for the Egyptian CUSD #5 school board.
Abercrombie told North Egypt News that she's running for a seat on the school board to serve as a representative for parents in the community so that they could have a stronger voice in the decision-making process.
"I'm motivated because the board needs people that are focused on making the district better for the kids. The parents definitely need to have more of a voice in the direction of things," Abercrombie said.
Abercrombie says that as a board member, she would be 'a great communicator, a team player and fair.'
"I truly want what's best for the kids and that's my only focus," Abercrombie said.
Abercrombie says that she has two children currently attending school in the district including one child in second grade and another that's a junior in high school.
"Wanting what's best for them is a big part of my becoming more involved, especially where my younger child is concerned as things become less about the student," Abercrombie said. "Keeping it about the kids would be a primary goal of mine as a member of the board."
