The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (7-5, 4-2 CL) split its doubleheader with Huntington University (14-7, 8-2 CL) on Wednesday, March 15, as the Cougars won the first game 7-6 before the hosts won game two by a final of 9-2.Josh Pettit got the start today for MVNU and the righthander went 6.0 innings, allowing six earned runs on six hits and three walks. Pettit struck out four on the afternoon. Things got off to a rough start for the Cougars as the Foresters started off the bottom of the first with back to back homeruns. However, the Cougars fought back and took the lead with a five-run inning in the fifth. Huntington went up 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth before MVNU scored the tying run in the sixth and the winning run in the eighth to make it 7-6, which ended up being the final. Hunter Billman stayed hot at the plate as he went 3-for-4 in game one with a double and three RBI. Casey Kalman, Rider Minnick, and Zackary Hoop each added two hits.In game two, the Foresters' bats came to life as the hosts scored nine runs on 13 hits. Logan Fox took the loss on the mound, going 4.2 innings. The righty gave up 11 hits and seven earned runs. He struck out three and walked two. Huntington starting pitcher Tyler Papenbrock held the Cougar offense at bay as he went all seven innings, allowing only two runs on five hits. He had 12 strikeouts on the day.
