The Board of Education of the Benton Consolidated High School District #103 met in Special Session on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. in the District Board Room. President, Robin LaBuwi called the meeting to order.
Mark Dyel opened in prayer and Kenny Irvin led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Board members present: Robin LaBuwi, President; Marci Glover, Vice-President; Mitch Bennett, Secretary; Robby Cockrum, Shane Cockrum, Mark Dyel and Kenny Irvin.
Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Sean Docherty, Principal; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; Cole Buchanan, Student Council Representative; Police Officer Morgan Waters; Bobby Melvin and Josh Kinsman, parents.
4. Comments from visitors other than for hearing
5. Hearing on violation of rules of conduct and sportsmanship for athletic and extra-curricular school events
The hearing was opened at 5:01 P.M.
Ron Giacone, explained the hearing process and reviewed the violations of Mr. Bobby Melvin. Mr. Melvin agreed and apologized for his actions.
The hearing was closed at 5:08 P.M.
6. Executive Session for the purpose of considering evidence or testimonies presented to a quasi adjudicative body
Shane Cockrum made the motion to enter into Executive Session for the purpose of considering evidence or testimonies presented to a quasi-adjudicative body. Kenny Irvin seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.
The Board and Ron Giacone, Board Attorney entered into an Executive Session in the Executive Board Room at 5:09 P.M.
7. Open Session - The Board reconvened in an Open Session at 5:48 P.M. Mitch Bennett, Secretary called the roll. Answering present: Robin LaBuwi, President; Marci Glover, Vice-President; Mitch Bennett, Secretary; Robby Cockrum, Shane Cockrum, Mark Dyel and Kenny Irvin.
Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Sean Docherty, Principal; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; Cole Buchanan, Student Council Representative; Police Officer Morgan Waters; Bobby Melvin and Josh Kinsman, parents.
8. Action by the board on violation Mr. Giacone read the Resolution Denying Access to School Building or School Events into record and Kenny Irvin made a motion to approve such resolution. Mark Dyel seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried. A copy of this resolution has been attached to and made a part of these minutes.
9. ADJOURNMENT Kenny Irvin made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:52 P.M. Shane Cockrum seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.
