Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Feb. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on February 16, 2023 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Chad Phelps at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sara Hays, Sandra Kabat, Erika Kehrer, Sheila Peterson, Lisa Roddy, Kathy Asbery, Pete Peterson, Amy Orrill, Angie Cheatham, Cindy Isaac, Melissa Hefner, Lauren White

Visitor Communication:

Angie Cheatham told the board she was hoping to speak to them during closed session regarding a recent student matter.

Erika Kehrer asked when the next meeting is and will parents be able to speak at the meeting. She then stated she is concerned for students and the school as a whole. She is here as a concerned parent.

Lisa Roddy spoke that she was here as a concern for safety of the students and that that something has to be done.

Kathy Asbery said the board has the opportunity to set a different ball rolling and change the culture at the meeting Wednesday and draw a line in the sand.

Melissa Hefner said they shouldn’t be dealing with the same issues and she hopes the board takes into consideration you can’t take anything lightly these days.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Leslie Knox to amend the January board minutes to reflect the correct year, 2023.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve consent agenda items.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to go into a hearing avote to consider the banning of an individual from school events and functions for a periof of up to one calendar year pursuant to Section 24-24 of the Illinois School Code.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Leslie Knox to ban Rene Russell and Heather Jolliff from school property for 1 year, due to intoxication and drinking at a school basketball game.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to go into closed session at 6:16 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to return to open session at 7:49 p.m.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve WGS boiler repair quote from Rend Lake Plumbing for $8983.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the 10 year Health Life Safety Survey as presented.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve Johannes Pay application #7 for $107,595.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item IX, 5, approve WHS locker room project was tabled.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve the district sub rates as follows: Teacher $100 per day and $200 per day after 10 consecutive days, Parapro $85 per day, Nurse $19.55 per hour, Custodian $15.51 per hour, Cook $13.20 per hour. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item IX, 7, Proposed calendar for 2023-2024 no action was taken.

A motion as made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Leslie Knox to adjourn at 8:24 p.m. Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Motion carried
