Cairo School District #1 Board of Education met March 16.

Board President, Sheila Nelson, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Kathy McAllister (daughter) wanting to know the purpose of the enrichment after school program. Students are not completing homework. Childs IEP teacher informed her he doesn't give grades, he works towards goals.
Kathy McAllister (mother) stated she was done driving the bus when testing is over. Parents are mad about homework not being done. When she arrives at the school, kids are out in the playground not ready for the bus, there is no control at elementary.
Maria Walkins approached the board at regular meeting in September and November about a partnership between the school and flag football program, why hasn't my proposal been on the agenda?
Brittany Matthews commented on how she feels the school is an embarrassment with how the school is looking. What are we doing to ensure the staff know they are appreciated? Why aren't emails being responded to? I was informed by a teacher, teachers don't have to respond to emails.
Julian Howard commented on coached for spring sports. Where do we stand for sports and do we have spring coaches? Kids show less behavior issues with kids in sports. Will there be a better system in place for the curriculum. Are there incentives for focusing and doing well on MAP testing?

Dr. Ferrell commented on:
Grants/finance: Met with Jill Dare & Dr. Rice regarding all grants, amendments and quarterly reports.
Staff/faculty: Interviewed candidates for the vacant Personal Care Aides/ELA Teacher Position Community: Discussion of community partnership with Delta Sigma Theta to supplement educational awareness programs. PTO meeting held 3/7 at CES, next meeting on 3/28. Curriculum: Juniors and Seniors visited several colleges in the surrounding areas, College Career Day held 2/28. Students worked on resumes, scholarship opportunities, FAFSA, etc. Building/grounds: QNS looking to update all virus/Machines. New air units will be installed beginning April 3.
