Benton Consolidated High School District 103 Board of Education met May 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Benton Consolidated High School District #103 met in Special Session on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. in the Benton Consolidated High School Board Room. Mark Minor, president, called the meeting to order.

Opening prayer was led by Mark Minor. Shane Cockrum led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board members present: Shane Cockrum, Jay Copple, Jim Giacone, Marci Glover, Mark Minor, Robin LaBuwi, and Stacia Sloan.

Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Sean Docherty, Principal; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; student and parents.

4. EXECUTIVE SESSION

4.1 Student Disciplinary Case

Robin LaBuwi made the motion to enter into Executive Session to discuss a student disciplinary case. Jim Giacone seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

The Board; Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; and Ron Giacone, Board Attorney entered into an Executive Session in the Executive Board Room at 5:31 P.M.

Open Session - The Board reconvened in an Open Session at 7:24 P.M. Marci Glover, Secretary called the roll. Answering present: Shane Cockrum – yes, Jay Copple – yes, Jim Giacone – yes, Marci Glover – yes, Mark Minor – yes, Robin LaBuwi – yes, and Stacia Sloan – yes.

Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Sean Docherty, Principal; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; student and parents.

5. COMMENTS FROM VISITORS

6. NEW BUSINESS

6.1 POSSIBLE Student Disciplinary Action Stacia Sloan made a motion to approve the Resolution Regarding Expulsion expelling student #103006238 commencing May 9, 2023 and ending with the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Jim Giacone seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried. A copy of this Resolution has been attached to and made a part of these minutes.

7. BOARD OF EDUCATION REMARKS

8. ADJOURNMENT Robin LaBuwi made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 P.M. Jim Giacone seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.
