Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met July 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on July 20, 2023 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Brian Gamber, Sandra Kabat, Lynette Leffler, Amy Orrill, Katie Schrementi, Rob Schwarzlose 

Visitor Communication: NONE 

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to go into closed session at 6:02 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)). 

Members voted: Jacob Frick, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; 

Motion carried. 

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Chad Phelps to return to open session at 6:24 p.m.

Members voted: Jacob Frick, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the Press Policy Updates 2nd reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chase Phelps to approve the Reading Recovery agreement as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to hire Claude Brantley as part time summer custodial help and full time custodial help beginning August 11, 2023 on step 20.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Jacob Frick to hire Lexie Phelps as a paraprofessional on Step 0.

Members voted by a roll call vote as follows: Jacob Frick, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Chad Phelps, pass; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, pass; Kyle Ritchey, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chase Phelps to hire Ron Stanart as a paraprofessional on Step 1.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to hire Baylie McKinzie as a paraprofessional on Step 2.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Jacob Frick to hire Hannah Heitmeyer as Business Teacher on Step 1/BS.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the milk bid as presented by Prairie Farms.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve Johannes pay Application #12 for $100841.40.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Jacob Frick to reject change orders #7 and #8.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve Joiner Pay Application #1 for $88468.29.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the concrete bid as presented by Rollie for WGS basketball area.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chase Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the return to school plan as presented.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to adjourn at 7:20 p.m.
