Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Aug. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on August 17, 2023 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Stephanie Barton, Amy Orrill, Tim Brendel, Cindy Brendel, Lexi Flota, Emma Wynn, Sara Lamczyk

Scheduled Visitor Communication: Stephanie Barton spoke to the board about wanting to include 3rd and 4th grades on the team. The Brendels and Sara Lamczyk would help supervise, Sara Lamczyk said Paisley started in 3rd grade and is still running. Amy Orrill spoke in favor of allowing it also.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to go into closed session at 6:20 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to return to open session at 7:15 p.m.

Members voted: Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Josh Trout to approve consent agenda items as presented including the resignation of Kate Page as grade school track coach and Rollie concrete bid.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chase Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to hire Chelsea Klebba as music teacher on Step 0.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chase Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the hiring of the following coaches: Ben Gordon- High School Basketball Assistant, Hunter Kluck- High School Baseball Assistant Volunteer, Dave Remer- Grade School baseball assistant, Lauren White- High School Freshman/Sophomore volleyball coach.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the Johannes Pay App #13 for $88,578.30 pending approval from architect.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VIII 4 Joiner Roofing pay app #2 was tabled.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chase Phelps to approve the district sub pay rates for 23-24 as presented: Certified $115/day; Non-Certified $100/day; Nurse, Cook, Custodian lowest hourly rate on pay schedule.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the annual invoices with Frank/Jeff IDEA Part B & Pre-K.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to amend the handbook WGS sports policy to allow 3rd grade to participate in cross-country noting they cannot leave before 2:30.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and Chase Phelps to approve the pee-wee basketball program and give the superintendent permission to advertise.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the resolution regarding destroying all closed session minutes older than 18 months.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to appoint Sandra Kabat as a proxy to Franklin/Jefferson special education executive board.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to set the fiscal year 2024 budget hearing date for September 21, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.
