Woodlawn Unit School District 209 Board of Education met Nov. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on November 16, 2023 at Woodlawn Grade School. The meeting was called to order by Chad Phelps at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Brian Gamber, Sara Hays, Dessie Staley, Brenda Randall, Carl Staley, Steve Danner, Angie Cheatham, Cathy Stanford, Samantha Stanford.

Item VII 6. Tax Levy was moved to after visitor communication.

Visitor Communication: Cathy and Samantha Stanford thanked the board for the school’s participation in flag placement at the cemetery for Veterans.

Steve Danner said he was present to listen to the Tax Levy Presentation.

Superintendent Eric Helbig made a 2023 Tax Levy Presentation in which the FY2024 budget starting balances were listed. Community member Steve Danner asked the board to consider different options to give tax money back to tax payers.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the Grade School only tax levy at 4.99%.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the High School only tax levy at 4.99%.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the Unit district tax levy at 3.99%.

All members present voted by a roll call vote as follows: Jacob Frick, no; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Jacob Frick to go into closed session at 6:56 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to return to open session at 7:57 p.m.

Members voted: Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded byJosh Trout to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to hire Leah Bennett as grade school track coach.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Jacob Frick to hire Rob Roth as grade school track coach.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the PeeWee volunteer coaches as presented.

Members voted by a roll call vote as follows: Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, pass

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve the Part-Time Student request.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve Johannes Change Order #1 $29429.00 and Change Order #2 $10559.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VII 4. Johannes Pay App #15 for $93,799.00 died due to lack of motion.

Item VII 5. Johannes/FGM Proposal was tabled due to no action.

Item VII 7. Truth in Taxation Hearing was not needed due to prior action taken.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the FY 23 Admin/Teacher Salary Report as presented.

Members voted: Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the agreement with Chapman Sports Complex for $1000.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to adjourn at 8:36 p.m. Members voted: Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes
