Ewing Northern Community Consolidated School District 115 Board of Education met Jan. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting was called to order at 6:33 P.M. by Board President Jonathan Edwards.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Emanuel Lowe, and Caleb Suver

MEMBERS ABSENT: Ryan Skibo and Pokey Squires

Visitors present: Joni Page and Amy Hamson

President’s Comments: Congratulations to the Competition Cheer Team. They won 2nd place in State. 

Volleyball Parent Game will be Jan. 22. Their first game is Monday, January 29th! 

Basketball Regionals will begin on Jan. 23 at Ewing Grade School. Ewing will host all Regional games-Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Ewing plays Wednesday at 6:00. The basketball teams have been playing very good. Good luck at Regionals!

We have used 0 Emergency Days. At present, the last day of school is Tuesday, May 22nd.

Consent Agenda: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve the Consent agenda. A. Approve minutes of the regular meeting/closed session meeting December 18, 2023. B. Approve to pay bills. C. Accept the Treasurers Report D. Review closed session minutes: a semi-annual review of closed session minutes from July 2023 to December 2023 will be conducted at the meeting. E. Destroy Closed Meeting Audio Recording from January 2021 to June 2021. 2nd by Caleb Suver. 5 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Jonathan Edwards and Caleb Suver).

Financial Profile MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to accept the Ewing-Northern CCSD #115 2023 Financial Profile Designation for the 2022-2023 school year as presented by Mrs. Ing. Ewing received a score of 3.90 resulting in Recognized Status. 2nd by Jake Page. 5 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Caleb Suver, and Emanuel Lowe).

Mid-Year Budget: Mrs. Ing discussed the Mid-Year Budget Report from dates of July 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023. She updated the board on the grants that the District currently is using. Maintenance Grant, Title I & II.

Set Dates: Mrs. Ing presented an update of activities, calendar, and set Graduation Date. MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to set the Class of 2024 Graduation date as May 16, 2024 at 6pm; Awards Night May 9th, 2024 at 6pm; Sports Recognition May 14th, 2024 at 2pm. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Emanuel Lowe, and Caleb Suver).

Athletic Teams: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to pay SIJHSAA fees and provisionally start a Ewing Golf Team for both boys and girls and re-evaluate in the fall. The potential will be explored for Volunteer coaches and any further action will be taken at the next board meeting. 2nd by Caleb Suver. 5 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Emanuel Lowe, and Caleb Suver).

Executive Session: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to go into Executive Session to discuss: A. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2©(1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe 5 ayes (Jake Page, Karla Gunter, Jonathan Edwards, Emanuel Lowe, Caleb Suver). Time in: 8:18pm.

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to exit Executive Session and return to Regular Session. 2nd by Jake Page. 5 ayes (Jake Page, Karla Gunter, Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, and Jonathan Edwards). Time out: 9:30pm.

Hiring: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to hire Terra Clements as a one-on-one aide as discussed. 2nd by Jake Page. 5 ayes (Jake Page, Karla Gunter, Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, and Jonathan Edwards).

Resignation: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to accept the resignation of Stacey Sheets from her current role as discussed. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 5 ayes (Jake Page, Karla Gunter, Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, and Jonathan Edwards).

Other: The February board meeting will be moved to Monday, February 26th 2024.

Our students that were previously homeschooled are back in the building as of January 4th. There are 2-first graders, 1-second grader and 1-seventh grader.
