Woodlawn Unit School District 209 Board of Education met Feb. 22.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on February 22, 2024 at Woodlawn Grade School. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sara Hays, Sandra Kabat, Cassandra Lueking, Josh Kehrer, Amy Orrill, Brian Gamber, Heather Taaka, Jordan Haarmann, Kaylyn Bond, Johni Utlaut

Visitor Communication:

Heather Taaka spoke to the board about a discipline issue with her son at the high school. Johni Utlaut was introduced to the board and expressed she is excited begin teaching kindergarten next year.

Kalyn Bond was introduced to the board and expressed she is looking forward to teaching junior high science next year.

Jordan Haarmann with AGE spoke with the board about the contract with AGE.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to go into closed session at 6:21 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to return to open session at 7:53 p.m.

Members voted: Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the consent agenda items as presented, including the resignation of Jacob Frick as grade school baseball coach and the press policy updates.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to hire Kalyn Bond as junior high science teacher for 2024-2025 at Step 2 BS.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to hire Cassandra Lueking as special education teacher for 2024-2025 at Step 3 MS.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve high school assistant baseball coach AJ Webb and Jackson Tiemann as volunteer assistant. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve Josh Kehrer as WHS Bass Fishing coach.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the district electric supply contract with AGE for 1 year with Homefield Energy.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the WHS Ag wall repair bid from Barter Masonry for $34258.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the WHS FBLA overnight trip to Springfield April 4-6; WHS Scholar Bowl overnight trip to Bloomington; and WHS Expeditions trip to Nashville on May 4th.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve Intro to Marketing for WHS for the 2024-2025 school year to replace coding and Cultural Cuisine as a new course. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve Johannes Pay App #16 (FINAL) of $79810.90 pending light issue being fixed.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chase Phelps to approve the FGM agreement for WHS electrical update as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve moving forward with the kindergarten renovations.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to approve Doulos bid for both new gyms for $7036.56.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the high school baseball and softball field maintenance at $2,000.00 each per year.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.
