Woodlawn Unit School District 209 Board of Education met May 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on May 16, 2024 at Woodlawn Grade School. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sara Hays, Sandra Kabat, Brian Gamber, Amy Orrill, Katie Schrementi, Erin Berry, Dustin Foster, Joseph Jones, Sara Lamczyk

Visitor Communication: Joseph Jones, Erin Berry and Dustin Foster presented to the board what a robotics team would entail at the grade school. They spoke of the different competitions involved and the skills that a student learns.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chad Phelps to go into closed session at 6:12 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chase Phelps and seconded by Chad Phelps to return to open session at 7:33 p.m.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve a one year suspension under item VI beginning on April 1, 2024 and ending April 1, 2025. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chase Phelps to approve consent agenda items as presented; including the resignation from Brooke Byerley and approval to dispose of attached equipment list.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Items VIII. 1 Hire WGS Softball coach and 2. Hire WGS Music Teacher were tabled.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the superintendents contract as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chase Phelps to approve the WHS handbook updates 2nd reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the IASB Press issue 114: Board Policy Updates; 2nd reading.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Chase Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchie to approve the FY 25 consolidated district plan as presented.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Chase Phelps to approve the 2024-2025 annual proposal from QNS ; new server at WHS, 46 WGS desktops, total of $34285.00. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the change order #1 from Baer Heating and Cooling for $20915.00 for 5 rooftop units.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the WGS rooftop HVAC unit replacement from Weeke Sales for $11237.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the WGS robotics team/club creation.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the WHS 2026 overseas trip for 10 days to Rome; student pay costs.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VIII 11. Kindergarten remodel bids was tabled.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve the 2024-2025 pre K program to change to full day Pre-K for 20 kids.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Chase Phelps to set the amended budget hearing date for June 29th at 6:00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.
