A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City of West Frankfort regarding unpaid parking violations on October 28, 2024. The request was made by North Egypt News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our quest for transparency and accountability, we requested a list of all parking violations currently unpaid in the city. This includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due, violation date, and total due. We believe that access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we underscored the importance of access to public records. We emphasized that such information is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We also stated our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information. We await a response from the City of West Frankfort and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments on this matter.
