Ewing Northern Community Consolidated School District 115 Board of Education met Dec. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Regular School Board Meeting was called to order at 6:25 pm by President Jonathon Edwards.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Ryan Skibo, Jonathon Edwards, Karla Gunter, Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, Pokey Squires and Jake Page

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

Visitors present: Michelle Hampton

President’s Comments:

*Congratulations to the cheerleaders for a successful start to their new competition season. They have qualified for state in January 2025 in Springfield!

*The Board would like to congratulate the students that participated in the Brain Games competition. The district sent 2 3rd/4th grade teams, 2 5th/6th grade teams, and 2 7th/8th grade teams. The district had one 3rd/4th grade team place 6th and will advance to regionals. This team included Jaelen Pieper, Wyatt Hofmann, Ariella Webb and Brynlee Odom. Regionals will be held at Rend Lake College in March.

*The Christmas Programs will be Tuesday, December 17th at 6 and 7pm.

*Teacher/Staff and Board Members Christmas Dinner will be held on Friday, December 20th, 2024 at approximately 11:35 am.

*Teachers will return to school from Christmas break on January 3, 2025. Students will return to school on January 6, 2025.

Tax Levy: MOTION by Jake Page to Adopt a Tax Levy as presented for 2024 Payable in the Fall of 2025. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 7 ayes (Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jake Page, Pokey Squires, Karla Gunter and Jonathon Edwards)

Abating Taxes: MOTION by Jake Page to file a resolution with the county clerk to abate taxes levied for 2024. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 7 ayes (Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jake Page, Pokey Squires, Karla Gunter and Jonathon Edwards)

Bus Lease: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to accept proposal #4 an #5 from Midwest Transit Equipment for new bus leases. 2nd by Caleb Suver. 7 ayes (Karla Gunter, Pokey Squires, Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jake Page, and Jonathon Edwards)

Seniority Roster and Years of Service MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve the 2024-2025 seniority and years of service roster. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 7 ayes (Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe and Jonathan Edwards).

January Board Meeting MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to move to January board meeting to Thursday, January 23rd, 2025. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 7 ayes (Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe and Jonathan Edwards).

Board Policy Updates: MOTION by Pokey Squires to approve the 2nd reading of board policy updates as presented. 2nd by Ryan Skibo. 7 ayes (Karla Gunter, Emanuel Lowe, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo, Jake Page, Jonathon Edwards, and Caleb Suver)

Into executive session MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to go into executive session to discuss:

The assignment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057.

2nd by Emanuel Lowe. Time into Executive Session 7:10 pm.

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to exit Executive Session at 7:34pm and resume Regular Session. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 7 ayes (Karla Gunter, Caleb Suver, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo and Jonathon Edwards)

Other: Mrs. Ing would like to congratulate Mrs. Michelle Hampton on being named one of Curriculum Associates’ 2025 Extraordinary Educators.
