Ewing Northern Community Consolidated School District 115 Board of Education met Jan. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting was called to order at 6:33 P.M. by Board Vice President Pokey Squires.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo

MEMBERS ABSENT: Caleb Suver and Jonathan Edwards

Visitors present: Emily Milligan, Cody Hiller, Johnny Winstead

President’s Comments: -Congratulations to the Competition Cheer Team. They won 2nd place in State. -Volleyball Parent Game will be Jan. 28. Their first game is February 3rd at Adams Grade School.

-Basketball Regionals will begin on Jan. 29 at Spring Garden. The basketball teams have been playing very good. Good luck at Regionals!

-We have used 5 Emergency Days and 1 Act of God Day.

Visitors comments: None

Youth Sports: Mr. Hiller presented information about starting a Pee Wee league at Ewing to provide a great fundamental and skill experience for the younger children. Mr. Hiller is going to meet with Mrs. Ing and Mrs. Hamson to discuss further. No action taken.

Board Member Arrived: Board member Jonathan Edwards arrived at 7:04pm.

Consent Agenda: MOTION by Pokey Squires to approve the Consent agenda. 2nd by Jonathan Edwards. 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jonathan Edwards and Pokey Squires).

Financial Profile Item tabled. No action taken.

Mid-Year Budget: Mrs. Ing discussed the Mid-Year Budget Report from dates of July 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024. She updated the board on the grants that the District currently is using. Maintenance Grant, Title I & II.

Bus Lease: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve the lift bus lease, with air conditioning, as presented. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jonathan Edwards and Pokey Squires).

Set Dates: Mrs. Ing presented an update of activities, calendar, and set Graduation Date. MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve the Amended School Calendar as presented, set the Class of 2025 Graduation date as May 22, 2025 at 6pm; Awards Night May 15th, 2025 at 6pm; Sports Recognition May 20th, 2025 at 2pm. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 5 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Emanuel Lowe, and Ryan Skibo.). 1 nay (Pokey Squires)

Executive Session: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to go into Executive Session to discuss: A. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2©(1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jonathan Edwards and Pokey Squires) Time in: 8:15pm.

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to exit Executive Session and return to Regular Session. 2nd by Jake Page. 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jonathan Edwards and Pokey Squires) Time out: 9:54pm.

Hiring: MOTION by Jake Page to hire Tyler Leffler as Head Track Coach. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Jonathan Edwards and Pokey Squires).

Adjourn: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to adjourn the January 23, 2025 Board Meeting at 9:58pm. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 6 ayes (Jake Page, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo, Karla Gunter, Emanuel Lowe, Jonathan Edwards).
