Ewing Northern Community Consolidated School District 115 Board of Education met April 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

MEMBERS PRESENT: 

Pokey Squires, Emanuel Lowe, Ryan Skibo, Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Jonathan Edwards, Jake Page

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

Visitors present: 

Emily Munoz, Kyle Neal, Kessa Bernard, Cody Hiller, Johnny Winstead

President’s Comments: 

*The Spring Concerts were all wonderful! The students were able to show their talents and it was a joy to watch.

*Students’ Young Author’s Night and Living Museum was on April 15. Student projects and 8th grade students did an outstanding job on their presentations.

*Track season has started. The students are doing very well. Regionals will be on Wednesday, April 30th in Mt. Vernon.

*A & B Awards Night will be on Thursday, May 15th at 6:00 with the Education Foundation Ceremony at 5:45pm.

*3rd and 4th Grade Brain Games teamed competed in Regionals at Rend Lake College. One of the Ewing teams placed 6th overall!

*Sports Awards will be on Tuesday, May 20th at 2:00pm.

*Golf Regionals will be held Monday, May 5th at the Franklin County Country Club.

*President Jonathan Edwards would like to invite the Board of Education to participate in the Annual Breakfast with the Board at Burton’s Cafe on Friday, May 16th at 8:15am.

*President Jonathan Edwards also would like to invite the Board of Education to participate in the Graduation Ceremony at Ewing Grade School on Thursday, May 22nd at 6:00pm.

Visitor Comments: 

Mr. Cody Hiller addressed the board regarding the youth basketball program. Mrs. Kessa Bernard address the board regarding a girls’ basketball program.

Consent Agenda 

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve the Consent agenda including the March 2025 minutes, April bills, and the April Treasurers Report. 2nd by Pokey Squires. 7 ayes (Ryan Skibo, Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Pokey Squires, Emanuel Lowe, Caleb Suver).

Summer Grounds 

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve the bid from Robinson Concrete for a new ADA compliant sidewalk on the south end of the building and concrete extension contingent on fill dirt research. 2nd by Pokey Squires. 7 ayes (Caleb Suver, Pokey Squires, Emanuel Lowe, Karla Gunter, Ryan Skibo, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards).

Technology 

MOTION by Pokey Squires to purchase any Chromebooks and Smartboards needed up to $35,000. 2nd Caleb Suver. 7 ayes (Pokey Squires, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Ryan Skibo, Emanuel Lowe).

SRO Agreement 

MOTION by Pokey Squires to approve the agreement between Ewing Grade School and Franklin County Sherriff’s Office to provide a School Resource Officer three days a week for the 2025-2026 school year. 2nd by Ryan Skibo. 7 ayes (Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo, Emanuel Lowe).

May Meeting 

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to set the board re-organization meeting and regular board meeting for Monday, May 12th. 2nd by Ryan Skibo. 7 ayes (Emanuel Lowe, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo, Caleb Suver, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards).

Xerox Copiers 

Mrs. Ing updated the board regarding the Xerox Copy Machines and letter received from JSD Management Ing. No action taken.

Executive Session 

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to go into Executive Session to discuss the assignment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2© (1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057. 2nd by Ryan Skibo. 7 ayes (Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Pokey Squires, Ryan Skibo, Emanuel Lowe, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwads). Hiring

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to hire Sharon Corn as K-4 Special Education Resource teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. 2nd by Pokey Squires. 7 ayes (Pokey Squires, Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Karla Gunter, Ryan Skibo).

Hiring 

MOTION by Pokey Squires to hire Emma Erwin as 4th Grade Class Size Reduction teachers with Pam Walden as her mentor for the 2025-2026 school year. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 5 ayes (Pokey Squires, Jake Page, Jonathan Edwards, Caleb Suver, Emanuel Lowe, Karla Gunter, Ryan Skibo).

Sports Programming 

Mrs. Ing updated the board regarding sports programming, uniforms, and budget for the 2025-2026 school year. No action taken.
