Here is the agenda provided by the board:
The Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee, Community High School District 99, met at 6:06 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025 at South High School in the Library.
The following were present: Board Members Kara Casten and Jennie Hagstrom; Scott Wuggazer, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services; Gina Ziccardi, Associate Superintendent for Student Learning; Kelly Zuerner and Karen Taylor, Associate Principals; Nicole Walus and Patrick Fleming, PATH Coordinators; and Juli Gniadek, Secretary.
There were 16 visitors. A copy of the Visitor Roster is attached.
1. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION
Scott Wuggazer welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming. Mr. Wuggazer introduced current Board members Kara Casten and Jennie Hagstrom and incoming Board members April Finan, Katie Courtney and Mike Riske. Those in attendance introduced themselves.
Mr. Wuggazer invited the group to provide feedback at any time and noted many recommendations from this group have come to fruition.
2. PAUSE ASK THINK HEAL (PATH) PROGRAM
Ms. Walus shared the PATH Program, an alternative to out-of-school suspensions, keeps students in-house, and helps students move forward in a positive way, therefore reducing recidivism. Mr. Fleming stated the PATH Program is for B Code discipline violations, such as fighting, weapons, drug possession or being under the influence. He noted, in addition to schoolwork during the three-day program, staff guide students to understand how they could have acted differently in the situation and to think about those who were impacted by their actions. Nicole Walus shared on the last day a re-engagement meeting is held with the student, their parent/guardian and the student's Alpha Team. At this meeting, according to Ms. Walus, the student is expected to state their inappropriate behavior, who was impacted, what they would do differently in the future and provide the name a person inside and outside of school that they can go to for support. She stated it is stressed that the incident is something that happened and not who you are.
3. CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM
Scott Wuggazer explained chronic absenteeism is when a student misses 10% of the total possible days of attendance. He shared data demonstrating that the rate of chronic absenteeism is going down at both schools. Mr. Wuggazer also provided information showing a majority of students who are chronically absent are not failing any classes. Those in attendance discussed the reasons for attendance at school, why some students don't attend school, and how to encourage students, especially those who are succeeding academically, to attend school.
4. CONSOLIDATED DISTRICT PLAN
Gina Ziccardi shared the Consolidated District Plan encompasses most grants the District receives. She stated, based on the District's local needs assessment, student achievement focus was placed on 9th Grade on Track, Graduation Rates and SAT scores. Ms. Ziccardi provided data showing the percent of all District 99 students exceed State standards in all three areas. She stated the data does demonstrate that disproportionality exists, with some groups of students falling into multiple categories. Gina Ziccardi then provided a list of interventions in place to assist all students as well as those specifically targeting the growing population of EL students.
5. CLOSING REMARKS
Mr. Wuggazer thanked everyone for their time and requested attendees provide feedback, comments or suggestions on the Google Form he will be sending out. He also provided contact information for the administrators present.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting concluded at 7:36 p.m.
