Woodlawn Unit School District 209 Board of Education met June 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on June 19, 2025 at Woodlawn High School. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sara Hays, Neesa Hayse, Danny Czerwinski, Brian Gamber and Chris Braden.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to appoint Josh Trout as secretary Pro-Tempe.

Members voted: Chad Phelps, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chase Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to close the amended budget hearing.

Members voted: Chad Phelps, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the amended budget as presented for FY 2025.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

No visitor communication

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve consent agenda items as presented included the resignation of Hailey Whisenant and the WGS handbook 1st reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Jacob Frick to go into closed session at 6:18 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to return to open session at 6:48 p.m.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to hire Emilea Wehrheim as RTI interventionist at MS Step 2.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chase Phelps to hire Biannca Hudson as the WGS Social Worker at BS Step 0, as non-certified.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to hire WGS boys basketball JV coach, Jeff Lewis, WGS boys basketball 5th & 6th grade coach Josh Lewis and volunteer WGS boys basketball coach Chase Phelps.

All members present voted by a roll call vote as follows:

Members voted: Chad Phelps, yes; Chase Phelps, pass; Jeff Burkett, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the Press Policy Updates 118 2nd reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the WHS kitchen plumbing project by Ford’s Plumbing not to exceed $25,000.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the WGS playground installation not to exceed $65,000.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve Purcell Pay App #2 for $16,031.61.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Chad Phelps to not approve the WHS course addition of Dystopian Fiction.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the FY 26 insurance bid as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chad Phelps to accept the FY 25 milk bid from Prairie Farms.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve th FY 26 fuel bid from Synenergy for 1 year FIRM $2.9071.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item IX 10. CEP Application died due to lack of motion.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to adjourn at 7:44 p.m. Members voted: Chad Phelps, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;
