The village of Bluford proudly stands as one of Illinois’s biggest anomalies.
The village, which has a population of less than 1,000, is debt free, X 95 Radio reports.
Mayor Mike Bullard says the distinction has been a long time in coming, recalling how the municipality has gone from pinching pennies over the last four decades to now actually having cash reserves.
Bullard recalls now former Gov. Bruce Rauner once made the trek to Bluford to marvel at how its leaders were been able to accomplish what they have.
Bullard, who has served on the village board for more than 40 years, said the feat is one all the people of the town —described “as a combination of Camelot, Mayberry and a Norman Rockwell painting” on the Village of Bluford website—can be proud of.
