State Rep. Terri Bryant (R -Murphysboro) will be running for Senate this year. Bryant announced her big decision to attempt to replace Sen. Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) in Senate District 58 on Aug. 27 at the Du Quoin State Fair.
The Illinois Republican said she believes in the work done by Schimpf in the past and will uphold the Republican policies set in place by her predecessors in the district. The Daily Egyptian originally reported that the Senate hopeful said she is looking forward to defending the 59th District against the "liberal-progressive agenda being pushed on the people of southern Illinois by corrupt Chicago officials."
Among top concerns for Bryant are spending, political corruption and the constitutional rights of her constituents. Bryant has a history of voting against tax increases, recreational marijuana and gun control.
