City of Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.
The Fall 2019 leaf burning periods will be Monday, October 14 through Sunday, October 20 and Monday, November 11 through Sunday, November 17.
The Spring 2020 leaf burning periods will be Monday, April 13 through Sunday, April 19 and Monday, May 11 through Sunday, May 17.
A leaf burning fire is permitted between the hours of sunrise and sunset.
No burning is permitted upon any public street, public sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right-of-way or manhole cover, nor upon the property of another without written permission.
All types of fires must be physically attended by a person at least 18 years of age at all times.
Burning of any kind may be prohibited during any permitted leaf burning period by order of the Fire Chief due to high winds, dry conditions, or other factors.
