City of Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Nov. 15.
The 1st Annual Mt. Vernon Christmas Decorating Contest is here! All residents within the boundaries of the City of Mt. Vernon are invited to participate by decorating the exterior of their homes for Christmas. Lights, decorations, inflatables, the more creative the better! Celebrity judging will take place between Tues. Dec. 10th- Thurs. Dec. 11th from 5- 7 p.m. Official entry forms and rules are posted in the event and can be found at the Mt. Vernon Convention & Visitors Bureau, 200 Potomac Blvd. Houses will be judged in 4 categories: Best Overall, People's Choice on Facebook, Best Theme, and Best Use of Lights. Winners in all categories will receive Chamber Gift Cards that can be used at nearly 50 area businesses! Entry is FREE and open to Mt. Vernon residents until Friday, Dec. 6th. Winners will be announced at the annual Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Luncheon on Thurs., Dec. 19th. Be festive and have fun! Time to decorate!
