Benton Chamber Of Commerce Inc issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
2019 is the Benton Police Department's "Shop with a Cop" program's 15th year helping put gifts under Christmas trees for kids across town.
The completely donation driven program will help approximately 14 children from Benton, purchase, wrap and take home presents for themselves and their siblings.
On a strictly voluntary basis, Benton Police Officers pick up the kiddos from their homes, take them shopping one-on-one at WalMart, volunteers help them wrap the gifts, then head out to an after party at the West City Community Building for pizza and a visit with Santa.
The children are ages kindergarten through 6th grade and chosen by members of the Benton Grade School based on need.
Again, this is a donation driven program, so every penny counts, and can make a difference with a child. If you would like to make a donation to the "Shop with a Cop" program, you can leave your contribution at the Benton Police Department. Make checks payable to the "Benton Police Dept. - Shop with a Cop". All donations are greatly appreciated, and go into an account strictly used for this program only. Thank you for your generosity and Christmas spirit!
