State Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Carbondale) went on Rep. Brad Halbrook’s (R-Shelbyville) recent video conference to share his thoughts on the budget plan that Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently released.

Jacobs said the plan taxes businesses too heavily, a move he said will send them to other states with more favorable tax incentives.

According to the budget report released by IllinoisPolicy.org, the corporation franchise tax was supposed to be phased out but the governor has kept it. This will cause companies to be hit with a $30 million tax.

In addition to that, the budget plan seeks to eliminate the tax credit for creating construction jobs, an incentive favored by both business and labor leaders.

These are just some of the details of the new budget plan that Jacobs was angry about. He claims that these taxes would be a detriment to any business owner in the state and that it will only prompt them to leave the state, resulting in Illinois losing more money.

Jacobs said, “We don’t need taxes on a business . . . we can’t increase taxes on the business or working families . . . they can’t do it! Businesses are going to continue to leave Illinois.”
