This week Republicans from all across the State Senate extended thanks to their support staff in honor of Administrative Professionals Day, including state Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro).
Bryant joined Sens. McConchie, Dewitte and many others in an April 21 video by the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus to show gratitude to the people working behind the scenes.
"In the crazy life of an Illinois Senator there is absolutely no way we can get everything done we need to do without legislative aides," Bryant said. "And on this Administrative Assistants Day I want to give a special shoutout to Cathy and Carrie in the Murphysboro office and Cheyenne who is brand new to the Illinois Senate and has made my life much easier here in the capitol. I couldn’t do it without you three ladies. Thank you so much."
Bryant was recently in the news for her skepticism of Gov. J.B. Pritzker's extension of COVID-19 restrictions and mandates through May, criticizing the governor for issuing executive orders without seeking input from the legislature.
"It appears that the governor just will not release the hold that he has on the people of this state," Bryant said in an April 16 article from Carbondale Reporter. "Again, he has not invited the Legislature to assist him in these decisions that he's making."
The U.S. has been celebrating Administrative Professional's Day in some shape or form since World War II.
The first National Secretaries Day was organized in 1952. Over the years, the name changed to Professional Secretaries Day. In 2000, the International Association of Administrative Professionals announced that name would be changed to Administrative Professionals Day.
