City of Benton Zoning and Planning Commission met Aug. 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Chairman Victor Shockley opened meeting, roll call was done with V. Shockley, G. Collier, P. Arpasi, J. Neace, T. Bates and D. Garavalia present; C. Cockrum was absent and minutes of July 7, 2021, were reviewed and accepted by J. Neace and seconded by P. Arpasi motion passed with no objections however G. Collier abstained. 

NEW BUSINESS: 

Spotlight Award was discussed and P. Arpasi offered several suggestions. T. Bates advised that Mr. Hubler declined the Award at this time. A suggestion was made by V. Shockley to have C. Cockrum drive around town to locate any homes that could be considered for the residential award. Discussion was held regarding the grey residence on the corner of North Main and Martin St. for nomination as to the residential award. The motion was made by V. Shockley and seconded by J. Neace to nominate the owners of the residence; motion passed no objections. It is believed the property is owned by G. Britton and D. Shelton. A motion was made by P. Arpasi to nominate Kirkpatrick Motors located on East Main and the motion was seconded by T. Bates, motion passed with no objections. The presentation will be done once owners are contacted and a date set. 

OLD BUSINESS: 

Discussion was held regarding the status of K. Neal's position on the Commission and it was decided by Motion from J. Neace and seconded by G. Collier to recommend to Mayor Kondritz to remove and replace K. Neal. This was due to several reasons to include: failure to provide a resignation by K. Neal and his failure to attend meetings which is a violation of the attendance policy. He has also failed to respond to communication attempts made by D. Garavalia. The motion passed with no objections. A motion was made by P. Arpasi to speak to Adrienne Mason about filling a position on the Commission, and the motion was seconded by T. Bates motion passed no objections. 

There was discussion about the Open Meetings Act Exam status and the website is still down. 

There was no update available as to the sign status on Bailey Lane. 

PUBLIC COMMENT: NONE 

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 6:50 pm, by G. Collier, 2nd by J. Neace and motion passed no objections.
