Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants have crossed the southern border into the United States from Mexico in the last two months alone which U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Carbondale) has called a "crisis."

Bost took to Twitter on Sept. 16 to express his concerns with what's happening at the country's southern border.

"August was the second month in a row where we saw over 200,000 illegal border crossings," Bost wrote in the tweet. "This is a national security and humanitarian crisis. The numbers speak for themselves."

His tweet came two days after Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives tried to get answers from the Biden Administration about what's happening at the border and how they've been handling it by submitting a resolution of inquiry, Fox News reported.

"We want answers, we want them now, and the Democrats in charge of the executive branch are trying to keep truth from the American people," Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said in a statement to Fox News

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas previously said the administration would continue with the current strategy which included processing improvements and stepping up enforcement against smugglers, according to Fox News

"We have a plan, we are executing our plan and that takes time," Mayorkas said when the July border numbers were announced, Fox News reported.

Thousands of migrants are staying under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas, after crossing into the U.S. which has overwhelmed local facilities, according to a Fox News report that featured its own drone footage that showed thousands of people being kept at that site.

Customs and Border Protection confirmed to Fox News that there were more than 200,000 migrant encounters at the Southern Border.  The 208,887 encounters was down from July's 212,000 encounters.

Bost, a retired Marine, has also spoken out about support options that are available for all service members and veterans. In a tweet he wrote, "if you are struggling right now, know that you are not alone and that help is available."
