Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Sept. 23.

A regular board meeting was held at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Sara Hays, Belinda Kirgan, Cindy Isaac, Rob Isaac, Marsha Garrett, Melissa Hefner, Garry Hefner, Roseann Elliston, Michele Montgomery, Stacey Wielt, Breanna George, Danielle King, Shelley Brooks, Melissa Hoffmann, Sheila Sodsaikitch, Leah Bennett, Chelsey Farmer, Tom Hassler, Emily Shands, Beth Hassler, Erin Hale, Chris Hale, Ashton Hapeman, Alex Ethell, Ami Pierce, Lois Herzing, Lori Maharrey, Craig Maharrey, Brett Anderson, Gloria Mandrell, Scott Mandrell, Susan Decker, Mr. Decker, Darrin Montgomery, Elijah Montgomery, Neesa Hayse.

Visitor Communication: Several visitors spoke to the board about the governor mandate concerning COVID vaccinations/ testing. There were a lot of questions about the mandate and how it was going to be enforced. Several spoke up about the discrimination factor involved with the mandated weekly testing and concern about what was going to happen next if we keep complying with all the governor mandates. There was concern about what is coming next will effect and involve the children.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to open the public hearing intent to issue working cash bonds.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Leslie Knox to close the public hearing regarding the intent to issue working cash bonds.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Chad Phelps to open the budget hearing.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Michele Chesnek to close the budget hearing.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve the budget for Fiscal Year 2022 as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Leslie Knox to go into closed session at 7:15 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to return to open session at 9:00 pm.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the board policy second reading regarding CRT.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

No action was taken on item X 1. Executive Order.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Michele Chesnek to accept the resignation of Sue Sanders effective September 30, 2021.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Jeff Burkett to hire Lexi Flota as a full time paraprofessional.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the FBLA out of state trip to Florida.

All members present voted by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the HLS funds for the state maintenance grant to fix the roof at the grade school.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the descaling of pipes at the high school for $10,000.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VII concerning the MOA with the WEA was tabled.
