Mount Vernon Township High School District 201 issued the following announcement on Nov.23

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (7-3, 0-2) fell to No.1 Saint Francis (10-0, 2-0) by a final score of 94-61 on Tuesday, November 23.

MVNU had a tough time generating consistent offense on the night. The Cougars of Saint Francis played pesky defense, forcing 20 turnovers. USF turned those turnovers into 27 points.

MVNU couldn't connect from deep as it finished the game 3-17 from beyond the arc.

Inside the Box

Kyle Kegley finished the game with 11 points on 5-11 shooting from the floor. He also collected nine rebounds, blocked two shots, and came away with two steals.

Trace Ramsey provided solid play off the bench, finishing with 11 points on 5-7 shooting.

Clay Hilliard was the third Cougar to crack double-digits. Hilliard finished with 10 points in the game.

Coach Ronai's Thoughts

"Saint Francis is a very good basketball team and worthy of their number one ranking. We did not finish the first half well when they went on a quick spurt to separate. Against a team of that caliber you have to limit and withstand quick runs. Even though we didn't play well, there were plenty of positives we will build upon. Our young guys will learn and grow."
