About the tournament
James "Hummer" Waugh Gymnasium at Rend Lake College has been the site of the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Boys and Girls Championship Tournaments since 1978. The tournament dates back to 1928 when it was played as sub-states at various locations in southern Illinois, particularly high schools.
The SIJHSAA Class L, M and S Girls Basketball State tournaments will be played in Waugh Gym. The games begin Jan. 21 and continue through Jan. 29.
RLC will also host the Class L Boys Basketball tournament from Feb. 12 to Feb. 17.
The Class S Boys Basketball State Tournament will take place at Pinckneyville High School. The Class M Boys State tournament will be held at Okawville High School.

Girls Tournament
Class S
All first-round games will be played Saturday, Jan. 22.
2:30 p.m. — Jonesboro CSD vs. Selmaville
3:45 p.m. — Trinity St. John vs. St. Rose
5 p.m. — Century Junior High vs. New Hope
6:15 p.m. — Okaville Junior High vs. Summersville Grade School
Winners of the first-round games will advance to the semi-final round, which will take place Thursday, Jan. 27. Then the championship and third place games will be played Saturday, Jan. 29.
Class M
All first-round games will be played Friday, Jan. 21.
3:30 p.m. — Vienna vs. St. Clare Catholic School
4:45 p.m. — Anna Junior High vs. Christopher Elementary
6 p.m. — Smithton vs. Aviston Elementary
7:15 p.m. — Pinckneyville Junior High vs. Nashville Middle School
The round one winners will go on to play in the semifinal games on Monday, Jan. 24. The Class M bracket championship game and third place game will take place Friday, Jan. 28.
SIJHSAA GIRLS CLASS M BRACKET
Class L
All first-round games will be played Saturday, Jan. 22.
9:30 a.m. — Harrisburg Middle School vs. Waterloo Junior High
10:45 a.m. — Carterville Junior High vs. Fulton Junior High
Noon — H"amilton County Junior High vs. Wolf Branch Middle School
1:15 p.m. — Salem Franklin Park Middle School vs. Carmi-White County Junior High
The semifinal games will take place Tuesday, Jan. 28, and the championship and third place games will be played Saturday, Feb. 1.
