Sesser-Valier Community Unit School Board Policy Committee met Jan. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

A meeting of the Policy Committee of the Board at 8:04 PM in the Sesser-Valier High School Library. The meeting was called to order by President Megan Rounds and roll for the Policy Committee was recorded by District Superintendent Jason Henry with the following results:

Superintendent Henry briefly described the policy review/committee process. New Business

Superintendent Henry summarized recommended modifications to the board policy manual (legal compliance updates, substantive modifications, and non-substantive rewrites of sixty-four (64) board policies). Superintendent Henry and board committee members reviewed one (1) PRESS policy manual update (Issue 108 dated November, 2021). The Committee reviewed and discussed each policy considered for update.

The Committee discussed Board Policy 6:60, Curriculum Content, at length, and rejected the inclusion/implementation of the National Sex Education Standards (NSES), citing several factors. Superintendent Henry advised the Committee that, after the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) issues administrative regulations/rules regarding the recent statutory change (105 ILCS 5/27-9.1a; added by Public Act 102-422), additional policy revisions may be necessary, including considering removing certain programs from the District’s curriculum altogether.

The Committee agreed by unanimous consent to recommend the revised policies to the full board for approval at its regular February, 2022, meeting.
