With three weeks of the legislative session remaining, Rep. Dave Severin (R-Marion) has given his constituents an idea of what's to come.

In his March 21 "Severin Says" newsletter, Severin highlighted several topics of priority for the remainder of the session, including energy taxes, and a deadline extension for motorists. He also thanked his "Page for A Day" participants.

"This week marks three weeks of legislative session remaining until the scheduled adjournment of the House and Senate on April 8. The next three weeks will be jam-packed full of legislative action. I appreciate everyone that has taken the time to reach out to my office to express opinions on bills that are moving through the process," Severin posted.

Severin acknowledged some visitors he had the opportunity to host.

"Thank you to Jacob Janello for coming to town. I've known Jacob's dad for many years, as his family is from Christopher," Severin posted. "Thank you also to my three pages that came to the Capitol on St. Patrick's Day, 7th graders Kallie Carollo, Makena Carollo, and Katie Norvell from Ewing Grade School! Thank you also to their grandparents, Dr. Robin and Marsha LaBuwi, for bringing them to Springfield. We had a fantastic time touring the Capitol. The girls also had the special privilege of meeting the Consul General of Ireland, who addressed the IL House on St. Patrick's Day."

Severin's newsletter pointed out a Bureau of Labor Statistics report that reveals that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has jumped 7.9% over what it was in Feb. 2021. Gasoline, shelter, and food accounted for the biggest bumps in the seasonally adjusted report. Severin mentioned legislation by Republican lawmakers that would put a cap on the state tax on gas.

Severin alerted his constituents that Secretary of State Jesse White announced another extension to the deadline for Illinois residents to renew their driver's licenses. Driver's licenses and ID cards will be valid until Jul. 31, 2022. The extension does not apply to commercial driver's licenses or CDL learner's permits.
