RLC Men's Golf Fall Season Review

L-R Casey Rhine (Assistant Coach), Blaze Greathouse (Mt. Vernon, IL), Austin Price (Harmony, FL), Dalton Nichols (Dahlgren, IL), Samuel Beggs (Centralia, IL) Ty Barbre (Carmi, IL), Eric Hernandez (Kissimmee, FL), Carson Wessel (Trenton, IL), Dylan Harkins (Mt. Vernon, IL), and Corey Phillips (Head Coach).

The Rend Lake College Men's Fall Golf Season has ended. The team participated in six different invitationals during this portion of the year.

"I was very pleased with how we competed this fall," said Head Golf Coach Corey Phillips. "We were the 25th-ranked NJCAA Division II men's golf team in the nation for most of the Fall season, which is a step in the right direction for our program. With respectable team finishes of 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 3rd, and 8th in some highly competitive tournament fields.

"I am excited about this team's potential to reach new heights this spring," Phillips continued. "We need our top 5 players to get completely healthy over the winter, be a little more consistent this spring,  and stay away from those big numbers. This team has the ability.  It's about going out and getting it done on the golf course.  But, as I've told them repeatedly this fall, we have the talent right now on this team to win golf tournaments and earn a spot in the national tournament in early May.   We'll see what happens, but knowing and believing it is possible for us is exciting.  I know my players believe that too."

"Freshmen Austin Price and Eric Hernandez had some outstanding individual performances this fall, and both are ranked among the nation's top 150 NJCAA Division II players," stated Phillips.

Austin Price is ranked 115, and Eric Hernandez is ranked 136 in the NJCAA Division II players.

This year's Freshman class brings an outstanding work ethic and drive to improve. The class consists of Blaze Greathouse of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Eric Hernandez of Kissimmee, Florida, Dalton Nichols of Dahlgren, Illinois, and Austin Price of Harmony, Florida.

According to Coach Phillips, the three returning sophomore players enjoyed a few low tournament rounds here and there but pointed out there is room for improvement in their consistency.  He also stated, "The good news for them is that the spring season really counts, so there is still time to get it right, and they all know that."

This year's Sophomore class includes Ty Barbre of Carmi, Illinois, Samuel Beggs of Centralia, Illinois, Dylan Harkins of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and Carson Wessel of Trenton, Illinois.

"Overall," Phillips stated. "I've seen most of the team make significant strides regarding their strength and conditioning, which has been good to see and hopefully will pay dividends this spring."
