The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (12-12, 5-9 CL) defeated Goshen College (3-21, 1-13 CL) by a score of 91-54 on Saturday afternoon, February 4 in Ariel Arena.
The Cougars began the game the way they intended to continue, jumping out to a quick 13-3 lead. At one point in the first half, the Cougars led 20-17 but then managed to go on a 29-4 run to quickly put the game out of reach for the Maple Leafs. Going into the half, MVNU led 49-24.
The second half was much of the same as the Cougars continued to barrage Goshen. The Cougars capitalized on 14 Goshen turnovers and shot 54.4% (31-57) from the field and 48.3% (14-29) from beyond the three-point arc.
Inside the Box Score
Trent Koning led the Cougars with 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Kyle Kegley had 13 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks on the day.
Clay Hilliard scored 12 points and added two rebounds.
TC Molk chipped in 11 points and two rebounds.
Kade Ruegsegger had nine points, five rebounds, and six assists on the afternoon.
Coach Ronai's Thoughts
"Our group really defended well today. We didn't allow their shooters very much space and limited catches in certain areas. That focus on the defensive end ignited us in transition. Our group still has growth in them and we're looking forward to growing next week."
