Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Jan. 26.

A regular board meeting was held on January 26, 2022 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sara Hays, Sandra Kabat, Brian Gamber, Kathy Asbery, David Asbery, Bryan Drew, Melissa Morris, Steve Danner, Jan Danner, Matt Smith

Visitor Communication: Steve Danner spoke to the board about a loose bleacher at the grade school, coordinate safety procedures for peewee games, and to address rumors about the district wanting to build a new unit building.

Kathy Asbery spoke about her 5th grade daughter being bullied for several years and nothing has happened. She asked them to create an enforceable policy to make WGS 100% bully free zone. She has met with administration and has not had any results.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Scheduled visitors:

Steve Downes with FGM architects spoke to the board about roof bid changes, change order request for gas line.

Matt Smith presented on proposed course for next year, “History of Human Thought”.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Leslie Knox to appoint the school board president to reside over the hearing.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Kyle Ritchey

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to ban Keith Cimera for 1 year from Woodlawn Property.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Kyle Ritchey

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to go into closed session at 7:12 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to return to open session 9:13 p.m.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Leslie Knox to hire Beth Youngs as district nurse at 13 years experience with a BS.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the 4th and 5th grade math curriculum purchase.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the WHS course addition of History of Human Thought for the 2023-2024 school year.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve Board Policy Updates second reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Jacob Frick to accept the resignation from Laura Kapp as kindergarten teacher, effective immediately.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Kyle Ritchey

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Leslie Knox to hire Terrance Hooper as WGS bowling coach and Victoria Nunnery as volunteer.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the roof bid for WGS from Joiner Sheet Metal, base bid and alt bid as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Michele Chesnek left at 9:39 p.m.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Jacob Frick to set the 2022-23 kindergarten long term sub rate at $275 per day.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve Johannes Pay Application #6 for $110407.50.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item IX 6. Was tabled- approve construction change order proposal.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Leslie Knox to set the WHS graduation for May 12 and WGS graduation for May 16.

Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Kyle Ritchey

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchel and seconded by Jacob Frick to adjourn at 10:01 p.m. Members voted: Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Jacob Frick, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Kyle Ritchey
