Woodlawn Unit School District 209 Board of Education met Oct. 19.

A regular board meeting was held on October 19, 2023 at Woodlawn Grade School. The meeting was called to order by Jeff Burkett at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Brian Gamber, Sara Hays, Casey Owens, Stephanie Owens, Bonnie Rowley, Josh Kehrer, Joyce Frick, Carl Stanley, Dale Randall, Brenda Randall, Dessie Staley, Aaron Peterson, Tom Larson, Whitney Waldman, Brett Waldman, Emily Davis, Jan Danner, Steve Danner, Amy Orrill, Katie Schrementi, Mallory Johnston, Dawn Owens, Cindy Isaac, Rob Isaac, John Danner, Angie Cheatham.

Visitor Communication: Steve Danner spoke to the board regarding property taxes and asked them to consider not doing the usual 5% increase due to assessments increasing significantly.

Whitney Waldman read a letter to the board regarding the softball coach and an email that was sent.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to go into closed session at 6:33 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Jacob Frick to return to open session at 8:32 p.m.

Members voted: Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;

Motion carried.

Michele Chesnek left after close session.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion as made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Jacob Frick to hire Brooke Byerley as a paraprofessional on step 0.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Chase Phelps to approve WHS cheer assistant Taylor Maharrey and WHS cheer volunteer coach Sarah King. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Kyle Ritchey to approve WHS Alyssa Doza assistant girls basketball coach and WGS girls basketball volunteer Jace Burkett. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chase Phelps and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve WGS boys basketball 5th & 6th basketball coach.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VII 2. Johannes pay app #15 was tabled.

A motion was made by Josh Trout and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve Joiner Roofing Pay Application #2 in the amount of $16,846.81.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Jacob Frick to approve Joiner Roofing Pay Application #3 in the amount of $5,542.90.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jacob Frick and seconded by Josh Trout to approve the FY 23 audit proposal from Kujawa and Batteau not to exceed $8800.00, with the understanding a $2500 charge will apply if a single audit is needed.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Chapman Sports Complex Proposal was discussed.

The December board meeting was moved to December 11th at 6:00.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchey and seconded by Josh Trout to adjourn @ 9:04 p.m. Members voted: Michele Chesnek, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Josh Trout, yes; Chase Phelps, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jacob Frick, yes;
