During the Republican National Convention, scheduled for July 14-18, former President Donald Trump named his pick for Vice President, Sen. J.D. Vance, on July 15. According to CBS News highlights from the 2024 National Republican Convention, Trump contacted Vance 20 minutes before he posted his pick for a running mate on social media. Trump spoke about the July 13 shooting that occurred at his rally in Pennsylvania; the convention was his first public appearance since the event. Nikki Haley endorsed Trump for president, and West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice brought his dog to the convention as he spoke in support of former President Trump as the Republican nominee for president.

Delegates were chosen by 56 states and territories and all gathered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to attend what the Republican National Convention’s Committee on Arrangements called a "blockbuster 4-day convention that will be broadcast across the world." The RNC expected to host upwards of 50,000 guests at the convention. The Committee on Arrangements is led by Michael Whatley, Anne Hathaway, David Bosie, and Ron Kaufman. The daily themes were: Make America Wealthy Once Again (Monday); Make America Safe Once Again (Tuesday); Make America Strong Once Again (Wednesday), and Make America Great Once Again (Thursday).

Severin has been a member of the Illinois General Assembly since 2016, first in the 117th District and currently in the 116th District. He and his wife live in Benton. He owns All-Stars-n-Stitches in Benton and Graphics Galore in Marion, according to his official biography.
